What is PMS?
Post-menstrual syndrome, commonly known as PMS, is a variety of symptoms that a woman goes through after her ovulation cycle. It is not only physical – PMS is characterised by emotional and psychological stress. The symptoms of PMS include bloating, cramps, indigestion, abdominal pains, irritability, anxiety, depression, vomiting and diarrhea among others. It is often difficult to manage these symptoms, especially when this pain is easily dismissed by others in the workplace or home.
Why Ayurveda?
It is basically the art of healthy living, known for its extensive natural healing ways that work on illnesses and improving the general wellness of the human body and mind.
In Ayurveda, PMS is seen not as a dirty process, but as a process of cleansing – panchakarma in Ayurveda is defined as the practice of eliminating bodily toxins through enemas, oil massages, blood letting, and purgation, including the removal of blood thoroughly the menstrual cycle.
This cleansed body in turn aids for improved overall health. Suitable home remedies that are vastly used in Ayurvedic herbal medicines are cumin, cardamom, fennel, and ginger which cure indigestion in the body and prevent bloating.
